What is a surrogate (i.e. a Gestational Carrier)?
A gestational carrier is a woman who agrees to carry and give birth to a baby for someone else. The baby is not biologically hers; i.e. the embryo is made from the eggs and sperm of the intended parents or donors. The embryo is placed into the surrogate’s uterus (womb) through a medical procedure, and she carries the pregnancy until the baby is born. The gestational carrier is not genetically related to the child.
